MMSD Australia Regional Group
The final report of the MMSD Australia Working Group is the culmination
of an intensive process of participatory research, analysis and
consultation, which involved industry, state and federal government,
research institutions, labour unions, and community, environment,
human rights and indigenous groups. A draft version provided the
basis for discussion at a series of regional multistakeholder workshops
in February 2002.
"Facing the Future" draws on the outcomes of the MMSD
Australia research programme, discussion at MMSD Australia stakeholder
conferences in 2001, and some of the broader themes emerging from
MMSD Global activities. It aims to present an independent, rigorous
and inclusive analysis of the minerals sector's capacity to respond
to the demanding and urgent challenges of sustainability.
