• Engineering Guidelines for the Passive Remediation of Acidic and/or Metalliferous Mine Drainage and Similar Wastewaters (PDF 2.7MB) - PIRAMID Consortium, September 2003. A Research Project of the European Commission Fifth Framework Programme. The document provides detailed guidelines for the passive in-situ remediation of mine waters and similar wastewaters, including the design, construction and operation of 'passive treatment' systems, and of similar interventions aimed at achieving passive prevention of pollutant release.

• Consultation of interested parties on a Draft proposal for a European Parliament and Council Directive amending Council Directive 96/82/EC of 9 December 1996 on the control of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances (Seveso II Directive) - This consultation has been initiated, in part, by the January 2000 failure of a tailings dam at Baia Mare in Romania, with subsequent transboundary pollution of the Tisza and Danube Rivers by cyanide and heavy metal contaminated effluent.
