  • International Chromium Development Association (ICDA) - Chromium is used predominantly as an additive for alloys and other materials to provide them with superior properties such as corrosion and wear resistance, strength and hardness. Most commonly known for it's use in Stainless Steel. The ICDA encourages the growth and development of the use of chromium as well as publish a variety of health, safety and environmental guidelines for chromium.

Academic, Research and Consulting

 

  • Acid Drainage Technology Initiative (ADTI) - ADTI Metal Mining Sector - A U.S. industry/government/academic partnership to develop cost effective and practical acid drainage technologies for abandoned, active and future mining operations. The ADTI is a member of the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) Regional Organisations Network.
  • Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy
    The centre offers a wide range of courses on law and policy in the areas of energy, petroleum, mining and natural resources, international and comparative water law and policy, and international business transactions.

    Consulting advisory services are also offered, in the fields of petroleum and mining law, economics, energy law reform, international water law and national water regulation, post-privatisation electricity and pipeline regulation and contract negotiations.

    A discussion forum on energy and natural resources law, ENATRES, is available.
  • Eden Project - Global Centre for Post-Mining Regeneration
    An partnership of the Eden Project, Rio Tinto, English Nature and Anglo American is investigating the need for a Global Centre for Post-Mining Regeneration through a year long feasibility study to finish in March 2004. The intention is to bring industry stakeholders together to address the major socio-economic, environmental and technical issues of mine closure planning.
  • International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) - INAP coordinates information sharing and research globally on acid drainage issues so as to improve the management of sulphide mine materials; provides a link between leading mining companies and regional organisations; conducts workshops and funds research projects. The organisation recently launched the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) Regional Organisations Network linking together groups working on acid drainage in Canada, USA and Australia.
  • Mining and Energy Research Network (MERN)
    MERN is an international collaborative research network, involving 140 centres of excellence world-wide. Through research, training, teaching and consultancy, MERN generates analysis across the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
  • Natural Resources Forum journal
    Natural Resources Forum is a quaterly academic journal produced by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and published by Blackwell Publishers. The Forum examines the sustainable development and management of natural resources, and the socio-economic aspects of sustainable development of water, energy and mineral resources, with a developing country focus. A sample copy is available for download from Blackwell Publishers as well as the former publishers Elsevier. A listing of other mineral resource related journals may be viewed here.
  • U.S. National Mine Reclamation Centre
    Established by Congress in 1988 to provide a national focus for resolving the outstanding technical reclamationchallenges facing the United States mining industry for both abandoned and active mine sites.
