The ILO has been involved in mining
sector activities in Latin America and elsewhere. Their principal
areas of concern are small scale mining, safety and health, training
and industrial relations. Work is also conducted on the issue of
child labour across a variety of sectors including mining.

United Nations - Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC) ECLAC maintains a library
of specialized information on economic and social development of
Latin America and the Caribbean . The library catalogue is available
on-line and contains a significant number of documents on the mining
sector including ECLAC publications. Most are in Spanish.

The World Bank Group

Community
Development Toolkit. (Spanish Version). The Community Development
Toolkit was published in November 2005, jointly by ICMM, the
World Bank and ESMAP. It is a tool addressed to support government,
industry, and community efforts to realize more sustainable
community development around mining and mineral processing operations.

- The Pollution Prevention and Abatement
Handbook (PPAH), adopted in July 1998, applies to all World
Bank funded projects. The guidelines are designed to be used in
the context of the World Bank Group’s environmental policies set
out in Operational Policy (OP) 4.01, “Environmental Assessment,”
and related documents. The environmental assessment process sets
the requirements for environmental performance of projects.

and Sustainable Development Series are new publications of the
Mining Policy Research Initiative (MPRI) aimed at contributing to
the dissemination of relevant information on key topics on mining
and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The first in the series on "Conflict, consensus and dialogue
in the mining sector" was published June 2004.

Mandala Projects
The Mandala Projects
is a collection of cross-disciplinary efforts to examine the effects
of globalization on people. The Trade
and Environment Database (TED) and Inventory
of Conflict and Environment (ICE) are two projects under this
banner. Each consists of a series of case studies, research papers
and other information on the areas of trade, conflict, environment,
culture, etc. The following documents are taken from these databases
and relate specifically to the mineral industry and Latin America.
