Conference The Global Mining Initiative (GMI) Conference is intended to be a worldwide policy dialogue and forum to assist the industry define its response to the challenges of sustainable development leading into the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) later in 2002. The major input to the conference will come from the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) project due to conclude in April 2002 with the release of a final report. what role for a Sustainability Fund?" Part of a project financed under UNEP's Program on "Selection, design and implementation of economic instruments". As an internal activity within the UNEP Project, results of research on a 'Sustainability Fund' were presented in the workshop, and the instrument's legal and technical feasibility as well as its political acceptability were discussed.
