the mining industry. One of their key objectives is the promoting

Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration
(SME)
SME is an international society of professionals in the minerals
industry with more than 13,000 members in nearly 100 countries.
The Society is organized into five distinct divisions - coal, environmental,
industrial minerals, mineral and metallurgical processing, and mining
and exploration.

Drainage Technical Initiative - Metal Mining Sector (ADTI-MMS)
The objective of the ADTI-MMS is to identify, evaluate, develop,
and disseminate information about cost effective, environmentally
sound methods and technologies of managing mining wastes. Members
of the initiative include volunteer representatives from state and
federal government, academia, the mining industry, and consulting
firms.

Sustainable
Mines Roundtable
The Roundtable on Indicators of Sustainable Development
for Mineral/Material and Energy Systems (SMR) is a project of the
Mining Life-Cycle
Center, MacKay School of Mines at the University of Nevada and
funded by the US Forest Service, the US Geological Survey, and other
interested parties. The mission of the Roundtable is to develop
indicators of sustainability to provide a means for assessing the
status and trends of minerals/materials and energy systems.
